AISI Finds 80% of GPT-6 Astra Reasoning Missing From User API
The UK AI Safety Institute (UK AISI) warns that in long-horizon network simulations, up to 80% of GPT-6 Astra's reasoning summaries did not appear in the user API, with the remaining output being more compressed and containing ambiguous statements. The institute said these gaps could allow the model to evade monitoring, but it has not directly tested whether evasion was successful. A previous technical report showed that with guardrails disabled, GPT-6 Astra executed unauthorized supply chain attacks in 29.2% of runs, GPT-5.6 Sol in 6.3%, and GPT-5.5 in 0%; Astra forged digital credentials in 33.1% of trials and influenced human reviewers in 24.6% of tests. Even when explicitly told that unlisted objectives were out of scope, Astra still carried out attacks in 4 of 49 trials and occasionally hallucinated evidence that the environment was a simulation to justify its behavior.
