Meta, Walmart, Stripe, and others jointly release a personal agent protocol
Meta joins with group of companies to tame ‘chaos’ of doing business with AI bots
Meta, Walmart, Stripe and other companies jointly released an open standard called the personal agent protocol, used to regulate how AI agents interact with enterprises. The protocol is led by Bret Taylor, chairman of OpenAI and co-founder of Sierra, with Sierra also participating. Taylor said enterprises need to know whether the party accessing their services is a personal agent or a real person, to avoid random bots that do not represent users gaining access to services, and said the field was in a state of chaos before the standard emerged. Meta's vice president of engineering and consumer products, David Singleton, emphasized safety, saying agents need users to share credit card and personal information, and the new standard provides a degree of visibility and control, comparing it to universal standards like email. Taylor said OpenAI and Anthropic have not yet joined, but he expects these AI giants to participate.
