AI did not create the technical vulnerabilities in election infrastructure, it just made the risk of related cyberattacks urgent. The Claude Mythos Preview that Anthropic disclosed in April is reportedly better than everyone except the most elite human hackers at finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities; the company did not release it publicly, instead offering early access to about 50 institutions through Project Glasswing, none of which are election management bodies or election technology vendors. The European Parliament's special committee on the European Democracy Shield, meanwhile, adopted a draft report calling for election infrastructure to be designated as critical infrastructure.
