Human complacency created the biggest problem of the AI era

OpenAI models helped discover a set of PHP vulnerabilities that exposed much of the internet to powerful exploits, and a poor disclosure process let hackers exploit them first. The author says AI did not create this problem; human complacency is the root cause: the vulnerability had existed for over a decade, Stefan Esser had already discovered this class of vulnerability as early as 2004, and the PHP Foundation said that in its 2024 audit it had reasoned about this risk but did not address it.
