QGIS passes QEP428, prohibiting AI-assisted contributions
QGIS merges QEP428, prohibiting LLM, AI, or agent-assisted code contributions to the qgis/qgis repository; violators face code rollback and contributor permission penalties. The proposal (PR #387), proposed by core contributor Nyall Dawson, replaces the previous QEP-408 AI tool policy. The old policy required reviewing all LLM outputs, transparency through Assisted-by annotations, and prohibited unapproved agent comments; Dawson said the process was not implemented in practice and the project lost at least one high-value contributor as a result. He stated the new policy closes the door first, then selectively reopens on a case-by-case basis, such as using AI for autocomplete or translation. QEP428 ended its discussion period on October 5 and entered voting, and was merged into the QGIS-Enhancement-Proposals main branch on October 7.
