OpenAI releases a library of mathematical research manuscripts produced by an internal model
OpenAI math research manuscripts
OpenAI published on GitHub mathematical manuscripts and proof artifacts produced by an unreleased internal model; the directory contains 722 manuscripts, grouped into 372 result families, categorized by mathematical discipline. Most of these results were obtained through the same pipeline, with each result consuming an average of three hours of ChatGPT Pro thinking compute; during the evaluation, the model was posed about 4000 questions in total. Some results in the collection have been formalized in Lean, while others have not; OpenAI stated that unformalized results may have issues and will be fixed as soon as possible, and it is also exploring community hosting of these materials. OpenAI also released model reasoning summaries covering 10 result families, including topics such as the irrationality exponent of π, Mahler's conjecture, and Kaplansky's direct finiteness conjecture. The collection will maintain a public version history, with revisions recorded as new versions and old versions remaining accessible.
OpenAI has made public the directory and verification status of mathematical manuscripts produced by an internal model, offering insight into its approach to evaluating model capabilities with open mathematical problems.
