Social Bot Detection in the ChatGPT Era: Challenges and Opportunities

After the rise of AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, social bot detection faces new challenges brought by AI-generated conversations and behavior, and an arXiv survey reviews the related techniques and application gaps. The survey proposes that generative agents can be used for synthetic data generation, testing and evaluation, and recommends developing multimodal cross-platform detection based on network and behavioral coordination signals, covering non-English and low-resource languages, and privacy-preserving federated learning collaborative models.
