Apple and Meta will partner to launch a new AI model

Apple and Meta said they will jointly release a new open-weight AI model that can run on high-end Macs. The two companies said the move is intended to provide an American open-weight model while competing with models from Chinese vendors as well as the closed-source systems of Anthropic and OpenAI. Meta AI head Alexandr Wang told Axios he was glad to see the two companies reconcile. Apple and Meta have been at odds for more than a decade; Meta has complained that Apple's App Store policies have cost it billions of dollars, and its CEO is said to have asked his team to make things painful for Apple.
