Four key points from Anthropic's potentially record-breaking IPO prospectus
Four takeaways from Anthropic’s potentially record-breaking stock market filing
Anthropic has submitted an S-1 filing to apply for a listing in the United States, publicly disclosing audited financial data for the first time and listing 92 pages of business risks. In the first half of 2026 the company had revenue of 16.3 billion USD and a loss of 80 billion USD (including a one-time expense of 72.4 billion USD); in 2025 revenue was 4.585 billion USD and the loss was about 33.9 billion USD; AI infrastructure spending in the first half of the year was nearly 9 billion USD, and its top five customers account for 25% of its business. The prospectus divides AI risks into four categories: malicious misuse, loss of control, authoritarian abuse and economic disruption, and acknowledges that technical guardrails are incomplete, may become outdated, have been bypassed and may be bypassed again in the future. The filing also mentions that Anthropic believes it detected the first recorded large-scale cyberattack requiring almost no human intervention, in which a state-backed Chinese hacking group manipulated the Claude Code tool in an attempt to penetrate about 30 global targets.
Anthropic's prospectus, while disclosing huge losses, admits that its safety guardrails are incomplete and have been bypassed, offering a window into how frontier labs present AI risks to regulators.
