"ChatGPT is part of the reason for my radicalization": the ambiguous role of AI in a teenager's jihadist plot

A 17-year-old high school student in France's Sarthe department is under investigation for plotting a terrorist attack. During custodial interrogation, he admitted to the facts and attributed part of his radicalization to ChatGPT. According to Le Parisien, the student had asked ChatGPT about explosives, including what damage 16 13-kilogram propane cylinders would cause if they exploded in a truck, and voluntarily stated that the cylinders were 60 cm high and 30 cm in diameter. The report says this is the first case in which the individual attributes part of the responsibility for radicalization and operational planning to AI.
