Meet Neil ‘Buddy’ Shah, the Most Powerful Man at Anthropic You've Never Heard Of
Anthropic has filed an S-1 with the US SEC to launch an IPO and could become the first publicly listed frontier AI lab. According to the S-1, the company has raised about $141.1 billion in total since its founding, and its largest outside shareholders, Amazon and Google, will each hold more than 5% of shares after the IPO, all of them non-voting shares. The filing lists the evolving, uncertain and at times divergent global regulatory environment as one of its risk factors, and on page 145 lists the name of Dr. Neil “Buddy” Shah, chair of Anthropic's Long-Term Benefit Trust, which the author calls the most interesting part of the filing.
Anthropic's S-1 filing discloses its financing scale and shareholder structure, and the long-term benefit trust chair nominee mentioned in it offers clues for observing the company's governance arrangements.
