Indian police say man arrested for allegedly creating AI-generated images involving police
Haryana man, 24, arrested for deepfake CCTV image of cop harassing journalist
Delhi Police in India arrested Nadeem Ahmad, a 24-year-old man from Palwal, Haryana, accusing him of using AI to create and spread fake surveillance footage and posters showing police sexually harassing a female journalist during a protest against the Election Commission of India in central Delhi. Police said Ahmad operated the Instagram channel news_aaina0776, which had more than 24,000 followers, and one of the AI-generated posters disguised an image of police harassing a woman as a surveillance screenshot from the protest site. Delhi Police's social media monitoring unit found the content being spread as genuine surveillance material on Instagram and Facebook. Ahmad was arrested on October 5, and preliminary interrogation showed he created the content on October 3 and spread it on October 4; police said his motive was to defame Delhi Police, create chaos, and incite protesters to attack police, and they are currently investigating the source of funds, accomplices, and whether there was a premeditated conspiracy.
