Danish culture minister proposes legislation to ban sharing AI deepfakes of people without consent
Kulturminister vil forbyde at dele AI-kopier af personer
Danish Culture Minister Zenia Stampe (Radical Left) has proposed a bill requiring that realistic AI digital replicas of a person's appearance and voice—deepfakes—not be shared without the person's consent. One of the bill's core goals is to make social media platforms quickly remove illegal digital replicas; whether something constitutes satire will be decided by the courts. Stampe said satire should still be allowed but acknowledged that drawing the line will be difficult; she herself has experienced her own posted photos being altered into a video that appears to show her speaking. She mentioned that SF politician Karsten Hønge was impersonated in hundreds of fake posts about Greenland. The bill will protect all citizens, including artists, whose performances and shows are also protected.
