Sony Music has requested platforms to remove over 260,000 AI deepfake tracks
Sony Music has now asked platforms to remove more than 260,000 AI deepfakes
By the end of September, Sony Music had requested digital platforms to remove over 260,000 AI-generated tracks impersonating its artists, nearly double the 135,000 at the end of March, according to a Financial Times report on October 5. Based on this, Sony issued an average of over 20,000 AI deepfake takedown requests per month in the second and third quarters. Sony told the Financial Times it will continue to defend artists' rights, but said this is becoming a difficult struggle. Impersonated artists include Harry Styles, Adele, Britney Spears, Queen, and Michael Jackson. Sony described the issue as generative AI deepfake tracks that imitate its artists' voices and images without permission, saying they are massive in scale, harm artists, and mislead fans.
