Anthropic files for IPO, vying for AI dominance
Anthropic files for IPO as it competes for AI dominance
Anthropic filed an S-1 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday to apply for an IPO, with shares to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT, and analysts expect a listing as early as November. According to media reports, the offering could raise up to $100 billion, which if achieved would exceed the $86 billion listing fundraising record set by SpaceX in June; the company was valued at $965 billion in May, and the final valuation has not yet been determined. The filing shows revenue of $16.3 billion in the first half of 2026, far above $1.2 billion in the same period last year, but a net loss of $80.7 billion and it is not yet profitable, and it invested $8.9 billion in infrastructure such as chips. The prospectus lists growth risks, including reliance on capital channels such as debt financing, and the need to use existing models to train the next-generation platform through recursive self-improvement (RSI). The report also mentions that Anthropic and OpenAI are both proceeding with listings amid AI safety controversy, and in September Amodei called for slowing development after his former researcher said AI has a 10% probability of destroying humanity within a decade.
The report cites the S-1 filing for data including Anthropic's first-half revenue, net loss and infrastructure spending, and analysts see the IPO as a test of investor demand for the entire AI sector.
