VIGIL: A Scalable System for Real-Time Detection and Mitigation of Cognitive Bias Triggers

VIGIL (VIrtual GuardIan angeL) is a browser extension that the authors describe as the first tool for real-time detection and mitigation of cognitive bias triggers, supporting in-place detection synchronized with scrolling, LLM-driven and fully restorable rewriting, and privacy-tiered inference ranging from fully offline to cloud. The system is extensible via third-party plugins, ships with multiple plugins rigorously validated on NLP benchmarks, and has been open-sourced.
