Meta and Apple team up to make Muse AI models run better on Macs
Meta released the open-weight model Muse Spark Open, calling it the most capable American open-weight model to date, and partnered with Apple to let it run locally on Mac. The model is natively multimodal with 816 billion total parameters; Meta says it excels at long-horizon tasks, complex software engineering, and multi-step reasoning, and can run on two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studio machines using the latest MLX framework. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on X that Muse Spark Open's weights were released that day and ran well on the new Mac Studio; Apple's new CEO John Ternus replied with congratulations, and Meta's Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang told Axios the two companies had been collaborating for months. Apple also published technical articles about MLX, Muse Spark Open, and two other open models.
