OpenAI strengthens democratic oversight of AI in national security

OpenAI plans to provide $5 million in training, technical support, and OpenAI credits to democratic government oversight bodies over the next year to strengthen democratic oversight of AI in national security. OpenAI will also pilot tools with authorized officials so reviewers can view the inputs, outputs, and tool-call records of AI-assisted government decisions, with evidence and conclusions retained by the participating agencies. OpenAI said it does not take on an oversight role over the government, and that AI should strengthen rather than replace human and institutional judgment.
