U.S. Department of Homeland Security orders federal civilian agencies to remove DeepSeek and prohibit procurement

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a directive requiring federal civilian agencies to remove DeepSeek products and prohibiting future procurement; third-party products and services built on DeepSeek are also included in the removal scope. The directive was made under the Federal Acquisition Supply Chain Security Act, and concerns federal civilian agencies' information technology systems and procurement. The author noted in the post that DeepSeek model weights are already open source, and that the U.S. government this time also restricts local deployments and third-party integrations.
