How Anthropic's employment is changing
How employment is changing at Anthropic
The Anthropic Institute released a technical report, based on the company's internal employment, AI usage and output data, and interviews with 17 employees, laying out how AI is changing Anthropic's job structure. The report shows the share of junior employees in technical departments fell from 21% in early 2025 to 14%, and the share of junior technical hiring fell from 27% to 9%. By August, employee-directed interactive agent work hours reached 6 times employees' own work hours, and the average number of code commits per engineer rose to 5 times the level from 6 months earlier. Employees shifted to meta-work such as writing specifications for agents and monitoring pipelines, whose share of interactive sessions rose from 10% in fall 2025 to 22% in spring 2026. Anthropic also built an early warning system that tracks roles affected by AI, and prioritizes internal redeployment.
Using internal employment and agent operation data, the report documents the decline in the share of junior technical hiring and the process of employees shifting to managing agents, and can serve as a reference for teams focused on changes in job structure.
