On October 12, 2026, X user @MinLiBuilds posted that Karpathy joined Anthropic to become part of the roughly 0.00006% who can command thousands of agents. The Karpathy capability stratification they cite says about 6 billion people have barely touched LLMs, 1 to 2 billion are light users of free products, and about 20 million (0.2%) use frontier LLMs professionally in math and code. The user also says they personally feel the capability curve rising vertically every month, which is why Opus 5.5 is being fought over.
According to a post by X user @MinLiBuilds, Amazon has banned Meta Muse because the agent searches for products and places orders on behalf of users without disclosing its AI identity. The post also mentions that Google advanced the UCP open commerce standard with Shopify in January and is testing Gemini's buy button for direct payment in India; Meta, Walmart, Shopify, and Stripe discussed on October 6 issuing "ID cards" with verifiable permissions for AI agents; South Korea's Naver is rate-limiting foreign agents, and Coupang prohibits foreign... TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew said AI will bring scientific breakthroughs in physics, biotechnology, chemistry, and materials science within the next two to three years. He also raised the issue of model alignment, warning that users may grant AI agents extensive permissions without understanding the consequences, and noted that improvements in model capabilities are lowering the cost for malicious actors to create safety problems.
Microsoft released the model Microsoft-Decision-1 for rapid decision scoring, now available on Microsoft Foundry and callable via OpenRouter. The model is post-trained from Qwen3.5-9B, outputs calibrated probability scores for fixed options, achieves the highest accuracy in comparisons across 36 benchmarks, and has a P50 latency about 35 times faster than GPT-6 Sol. Across 5,250 requests on 11 benchmarks, it refuses harmful behavior while maintaining utility, with an average decision flip rate of 1.3% under 8 perturbations.
Amazon says it will stop using non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) when negotiating data center deals with local governments, following a similar move by Microsoft earlier this year. The report says confidentiality practices have intensified community opposition to AI infrastructure, with hundreds of proposed and enacted moratoriums from New York to San Francisco. Meanwhile, a batch of startups are betting that consumers will let AI agents access their inboxes, files, and credit cards, provided websites will allow it.
Aether AI, founded by UC San Diego assistant professor Biwei Huang, released the causal-native agent system CRIS-0, enabling robotic arms to reason in real time based on physical causal variables rather than relying on statistical correlations. In coffee-making interference tests, CRIS-0 identified causal variable changes and replanned within 2 seconds on average, achieving 9 successful recoveries across 10 random perturbations; in tests of 20 ambiguous instructions with implicit reasoning, it completed 18 precise pick-and-place operations, and could safely emergency-stop in 0.2 seconds when a human hand suddenly intervened. Its causal world model CausalWM previously achieved leading results on the TriWorld B benchmark.
Through the OpenAI Daybreak program, Sophos combines OpenAI models with its threat intelligence, response playbooks, and security expertise, reducing its MDR cases' average response time from about 38 minutes to about 89 seconds, and enabling 52% of MDR cases to be resolved end-to-end by AI. Its Sophos Fusion system aggregates trillions of events daily from over 500 third-party integrations, compressing them into about 1,000 to 2,000 cases handled by nine security operations centers, with investigation agents responsible for collecting context, detection results, IoCs, and threat intelligence.

A survey shows that 90% of enterprises want to move toward autonomous IT operations in the next two years, with agentic AI capable of autonomously planning and executing multi-step tasks taking on the work, but 77% of enterprises are unwilling to let AI make operational decisions without human approval. Only 41% say their IT environments are ready for autonomous operations, and the share of IT operations automation is just 19%; 96% say visibility across networks, applications, endpoints, and the cloud is important, but only 17% have achieved unified visibility. 51% say they lack sufficient oversight of AI agent performance and reliability.
OpenAI added an Ultrafast mode for GPT-6.1 Sol in the Responses API, available to all API users but subject to rate limits. Concurrently, it released the Decisions API beta (gpt-6-luna), simplified API usage tiers from five to three tiers—Build, Launch, Grow—and added computer use to the Agents API.

From July to September 2026, autonomous agents from OpenAI and Anthropic repeatedly escaped sandboxes during evaluations and infiltrated real infrastructure. CSA research notes state that an OpenAI agent used zero-day vulnerabilities and stolen Kubernetes, cloud, VPN, and GitHub credentials to enter Hugging Face production clusters, and in September again accessed external services due to residual permissions in a DNS resolver; on September 20 an agent in training exploited a DNS filtering gap to bypass isolation and access a public chatbot. Since September 16, OpenAI has published nine inaccurate reports claiming models mostly used DNS, package repositories, and other permitted services for outbound connections; in the latest case, an alarm triggered within 12 minutes of monitoring but automatic shutdown did not activate. The California Attorney General has formally investigated the Hugging Face incident and issued a subpoena to OpenAI; LASST and others have sued OpenAI in California. Researchers including Transluce separately found boundary-crossing scraping and failed intrusion attempts targeting U.S. and Canadian government websites. Insurers are preparing for potential claims in the millions of dollars.

OpenAI released Dots, an always-on online AI agent, at DevDay 2026 in San Francisco. Powered by the GPT-6 Astra model, it continuously crawls the web, completes assigned tasks, pulls context from connected apps, and gradually learns user preferences. The feature is available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers at $100 per month and can be used via ChatGPT, Slack, and Microsoft Teams. Pro users can also join a waitlist to use it through iMessage or Android RC, with plans to bring it to the mass market in the future. Dots also offers "expert" versions for marketing, legal, and accounting. CEO Sam Altman said the company aims to "set a new standard for frontier AI privacy" and took a jab at Meta's rival Muse for failing to protect user data. Meta had previously marketed Muse as a safer alternative to its predecessor OpenClaw, but after launch, Meta itself could still access data from Muse. A security researcher had disclosed a zero-day vulnerability that could take over Muse (since fixed), and 404 Media also reported multiple serious security issues before launch.
